HENRY WHATLING (2) 1801-1877
(aka Vincent & sometimes Vinson)
My great x 3 grandfather
Henry Watling was christened 19 Jan 1801 at Stradbroke as WATLING his parents were Henry WATLING and Elizabeth (Vincent)

He married Mary SHARMAN in 1823 as Henry VINSON
Mary Watling nee SHARMAN born 1794 and christened at Haughley on 16 May 1794
There is some speculation that his wife was Maria KNIGHTS who a Henry Whatling married at Hoxne Parish Church on 5th December 1821.
Unfortunately, after this marriage no trace can be found of Maria. She could have become Mary (common enough) as the family appear in 1841 census.
However, Henry's wife Mary is certainly
Mary SHARMAN .
If you look at the Baptismal certificate Number 9( for John) below you will see she was the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth SHARMAN.
Henry and Mary's family as baptised here also appear in the 1841 census (see below)
In 1824 Henry and Mary were 'Removed' from Stradbroke to Wingfield
This was just 2 months after their wedding.
Note: Mary may well have been pregnant with Henry?

Tess Barker and Roz Whatling visited Ipswich Records Office and found this for me:

Note: A link to Henry's grandfather = Witness "Honor WARNES"
*A Removal Order was the written authorization prepared by the Overseers of the Poor of a parish requiring an individual or family resident in a parish to return to their parish of legal settlement.
A Removal Order was prepared upon an individual or family becoming impoverished at the parish of residence to the point of becoming or about to become a burden on the poor rates of that parish.
A Removal Order was also typically prepared post-haste should a single woman residing in the parish become pregnant and that parish was not her parish of settlement.
There are a number of reasons why somebody may not have settlement in the parish in which they were born or baptised.
Christenings of WHATLINGs as VINCENTS at Stradbroke Baptist Church :
John "Vincent"
.jpg)
Maria,George and James "Vincent"
So Why are they VINCENTS?
Because their father's mum and dad (Henry Watling and Elizabeth Vincent did not marry,
so father Henry was infact Henry VINCENT in the eyes of the church!.
All the children would also be' Vincents ' even though they were all actually WATLINGs.
Henry Watling was christened 15 May 1825 at Wingfield Parish Church as VINCENT -
